Mindy Rose Farrell

Mindy is a native Burqueña who finally made her way back after getting her bachelor’s in electrical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and her early career in Colorado. . Ultimately, she came back to New Mexico to be closer to family and now works as a systems engineer at Sandia National Laboratories. She’s held roles in manufacturing, electrical engineering, systems engineering, and management over the past 13 years. She is passionate about the tasks that she takes on whether that is with family, work, or SHPE. She has been in SHPE for over 15 years in a variety of roles on the local, regional, and national level. She is excited to hop back on as chapter president to keep building the momentum created by the chapter over the last several years!

Nicole Villavicencio-Garduno

Nicole Villavicencio-Garduño is a post-master’s researcher in the A-4 group at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where she conducts research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. She earned her master’s degree in Information Security from Carnegie Mellon University, with a focus on AI engineering and her bachelor's in Computer Science from Birmingham Southern College. Nicole is passionate about developing secure, trustworthy AI systems and advancing innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. Originally from Alabama, she has a strong commitment to leadership and community engagement through organizations dedicated to supporting STEM and underrepresented communities. Her work is driven by a dedication to advancing cutting-edge research while translating technical innovation into meaningful real-world impact.

Carlos Rubio

Carlos is a Peruvian-born engineer and proud Sandian who works in software development at Sandia National Laboratories, with a professional background in computer networks. He earned his bachelor’s degree from New Mexico Tech. Carlos has been an active member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) for more than 10 years, serving in a variety of leadership and volunteer roles as both a student and a professional. He is passionate about SHPE’s mission of empowering the Hispanic community and inspiring future generations to pursue opportunities in STEM. Outside of work and volunteering, Carlos is an avid soccer fan and enjoys connecting with fellow SHPE members through social hours—especially when board games are involved.

Dr. Dorianis Perez

Dorianis Mercedes Perez, PhD is an R&D Scientist at Sandia National Laboratory working in the AI and Data Science group. She earned her PhD from Florida State University in Computational Science and her background includes computational fluid dynamics, solid and material mechanics, and AI/ML for scientific applications. She also holds a MS in Forensic Anthropology from Mercyhurst University and a BS in Mathematics and Forensic Science from Hofstra University. In her spare time, Dorianis enjoys spending time with her SHPE community, staying active via spinning, pilates, hiking, paddleboarding, kayaking, and ice skating. She is a proud Dominican and also enjoys embracing her culture through latin dance, cooking, and spending time with family.

Dr. Stacie Hernandez

Dr. Stacie Hernandez is a Post Doctoral Appointee at Sandia National Laboratories. She graduated with her PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 2025 with honorary Distinction. Completing her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico in 2020 and 2022 respectively. She has been a SHPE member since 2017. As a student member Stacie was involved in leadership roles within her universities’ SHPE chapter as a Community Outreach Chair, Co-President and Conference-Chair. Stacie has been involved in her local professional SHPE NM chapter as a member and as Pre-Collegiate VP.
